Payments Reconciliation Manager
We are looking for a hands-on Payments Reconciliation Manager to take ownership of daily reconciliation across a large number of payment systems.
The main goal is to ensure the accuracy and consistency of financial data by collecting and standardizing data from multiple payment systems, reconciling it with our internal platform, validating balances and fees, and identifying discrepancies.
This is an individual contributor role with no team management responsibilities. We need an experienced, self-sufficient specialist who is comfortable handling high volumes of recurring operational tasks and taking end-to-end ownership of the reconciliation process.
Responsibilities
Collect daily statements and transaction data from approximately 50 payment systems (PSs).
Standardize data from multiple sources and file formats.
Reconcile payment system data against the internal platform and verify balance accuracy.
Identify and correctly account for settlement transactions.
Verify fees charged by payment systems.
Investigate discrepancies related to time zones, FX conversions, fees, transaction statuses, settlements, and other factors.
Document identified discrepancies and escalate them to the relevant team members.
Gradually standardize and simplify recurring processes using Excel, Google Sheets, and other relevant tools.
Requirements
Hands-on experience in transaction, payment, bank, or PSP reconciliation.
Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills and experience working with large datasets.
Experience handling data from different sources and formats, including varying date formats, time zones, currencies, and number formats.
Ability to independently identify, investigate, and explain discrepancies.
Understanding of transaction flows, statuses, fees, settlements, and balances.
High attention to detail and accuracy when working with financial data.
Willingness to handle a high volume of recurring, operational tasks on a daily basis.
Experience in PSPs, FinTech, acquiring, gambling, or other high-volume payment environments will be an advantage.
Who We Are Not Looking For
A manager who is used to delegating reconciliation tasks to a team.
An accountant without practical transaction reconciliation experience.
An analyst who works exclusively with pre-processed and prepared data.
A specialist who is not comfortable with recurring hands-on work involving multiple data sources and files.
The Key Principle
Accurate numbers first. Automation second.
The specialist will be responsible for ensuring that daily reconciliation is completed accurately and consistently. Recurring processes should be gradually standardized and simplified, but never at the expense of reconciliation quality.
