Position Overview

Lewis C. Nelson & Sons, Inc. is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Accountant to manage accounting functions for multiple operating entities, including a restaurant, Holiday Inn hotel, and Chevrolet dealership.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on accounting experience, excellent organizational skills, and a thorough understanding of restaurant and hospitality accounting. Experience with Toast and QuickBooks Online is required.

This position will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, completing monthly accounting functions, reconciling accounts, managing accounts payable and receivable, and supporting timely and accurate financial reporting across multiple entities.

Key Responsibilities

General Accounting

• Maintain accurate general ledgers for multiple entities.
• Record and review daily financial transactions and journal entries.
• Perform monthly account reconciliations and ensure the accuracy of financial records.
• Prepare and maintain support schedules for balance sheet accounts.
• Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
• Identify discrepancies and research and resolve accounting issues.
• Maintain organized and complete accounting documentation.

Restaurant Accounting

• Manage and review restaurant accounting activity using Toast and QuickBooks Online.
• Reconcile Toast sales, payments, deposits, credit cards, cash, gift cards, and other payment methods.
• Analyze and reconcile food and beverage sales and costs.
• Maintain accurate cost of goods sold (COGS) reporting and assist with food and beverage cost analysis.
• Review inventory activity and investigate significant variances.
• Reconcile daily sales and deposits to the general ledger.
• Ensure restaurant sales and accounting information is accurately reflected in financial statements.

Hotel Accounting

• Support accounting for the Holiday Inn operation, including revenue, accounts receivable, accounts payable, deposits, and operating expenses.
• Reconcile hotel revenue and deposits to accounting records.
• Review hotel-related transactions and ensure proper account coding.
• Assist with monthly financial reporting and variance analysis.

Sales Tax & Compliance

• Prepare, review, and reconcile sales tax information.
• Ensure sales tax collected is accurately recorded and properly reconciled.
• Assist with sales tax filings and provide supporting documentation as needed.
• Maintain accurate records to support tax filings and audits.

Accounts Payable

• Manage the accounts payable process for multiple entities.
• Review invoices for accuracy, proper coding, approvals, and supporting documentation.
• Enter invoices into QuickBooks Online and maintain accurate vendor records.
• Prepare accounts payable for payment according to established procedures.
• Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.

Accounts Receivable

• Manage and monitor accounts receivable for applicable entities.
• Record customer payments and reconcile receivable balances.
• Follow up on outstanding receivables and investigate discrepancies.
• Maintain accurate customer account records.

Bank Reconciliations & Cash Management

• Complete monthly bank reconciliations for all assigned entities.
• Reconcile credit card and merchant processing accounts.
• Investigate outstanding checks, deposits, and other reconciling items.
• Ensure cash transactions are accurately recorded in the general ledger.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in hospitality, restaurant, hotel, or multi-entity environments.
• Strong knowledge of QuickBooks Online.
• Hands-on experience with Toast and restaurant accounting.
• Strong understanding of restaurant cost of goods sold (COGS).
• Strong understanding of sales tax accounting and reconciliation.
• Proficiency with general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.
• Experience working with multiple entities or locations preferred.
• Strong Excel skills and the ability to work with accounting spreadsheets and reports.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to identify discrepancies, research issues, and resolve problems independently.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a restaurant and hotel accounting environment.
• Experience with multi-entity accounting.
• Experience reconciling Toast to bank deposits and the general ledger.
• Experience with inventory and food-cost accounting.
• Experience supporting monthly financial statements and management reporting.
• Experience working with an automotive dealership or dealership accounting is a plus.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on accountant who understands hospitality operations, not simply someone who enters transactions. This person should understand how restaurant sales flow from Toast to the bank and general ledger, how food and beverage costs affect profitability, and how to identify and correct accounting discrepancies.

The candidate must be organized, accountable, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing accounting responsibilities across multiple businesses and entities.

$25.00–$30.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
