About BGZ Brands

BGZ Brands is a family of consumer products brands led by BodyGuardz. For 24 years, the company has built its reputation on device protection. Today, BGZ is expanding what it protects, developing products that not only protect technology but also help people build a healthier relationship with it. The company is headquartered in Lehi, Utah.

BGZ is growing across direct-to-consumer, beauty and wellness retail, international, and B2B channels. The company is seeking a finance leader to support continued growth while maintaining strong control of cash flow.

Job Summary

The VP of Finance leads the finance and accounting function and serves as a strategic partner to the CEO and executive team. This role guides key decisions on investment, pricing, and capital needs and is accountable for accurate, timely financial reporting. This is a hands-on leadership position: the VP of Finance builds the financial plan and is directly involved in carrying it out.

The VP of Finance leads a four-person team that includes an Assistant Controller, AP/AR accounting, and two part-time finance staff. The position is intended to grow into the company's Chief Financial Officer role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Cash management and forecasting. Own the 13-week cash forecast and the monthly re-forecast. Manage banking relationships and the company's credit facility.
  • Planning and budgeting. Lead the annual budget and quarterly forecasts in partnership with the executive team. Monitor performance against plan and hold department leaders accountable for results.
  • Financial reporting. Deliver an accurate, timely monthly close in accordance with GAAP, along with a monthly financial package for the board of directors.
  • Margin and pricing analysis. Report margin by product, channel, and customer, including the impact of licensing royalties, tariffs, and retailer terms. Identify where the company gains and loses profitability and recommend adjustments.
  • Inventory and cost accounting. Own inventory valuation, landed cost, and cost of goods sold.
  • Tax and audit. Oversee tax compliance, including multi-state sales tax, and manage the year-end close in partnership with the company's outside CPA firm.
  • Credit and collections. Oversee customer credit terms and accounts receivable collection.
  • Systems and automation. Complete and stabilize the company's transition to Odoo. Automate reporting so the team spends its time on analysis rather than data entry.
  • Internal controls. Establish review and approval processes that maintain proper separation of duties.
  • Deal analysis. Build financial models for new channels, retail partnerships, and distribution agreements before they are signed.
  • Risk and insurance. Support the management of insurance coverage and financial risk, including relationships with brokers and carriers.
  • Outside partners. Maintain relationships with banks, lenders, insurance providers, and the company's outside accounting firm.
  • Team leadership. Lead, develop, and mentor the finance and accounting team.

  • Experience at a consumer products company
  • Demonstrated ownership of cash forecasting at a growing company
  • Strong command of retail and wholesale finance, including retailer terms, chargebacks, returns, and inventory
  • Working knowledge of GAAP
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA
  • A hands-on approach, with the ability to do the work as well as review it

Preferred

  • ERP implementation experience (Odoo preferred)
  • Experience with licensing royalties and import tariffs
  • Experience using AI tools to improve finance workflows and build automation
  • Experience working with a board of directors, investors, and lenders

Knowledge and Skills

  • Clear, effective written and verbal communication with internal teams and outside partners
